It can dissolve some inorganic salts, such as silver nitrate, lithium nitrate and magnesium bromide. It can form an azeotropic mixture with water (containing 16% water), with a azeotropic point of 76 ℃. Flammable, its vapor and air can form an explosive mixture, which may cause combustion and explosion in case of open fire, high heat or contact with oxidant. It can react strongly with oxidant. It reacts violently with sulfuric acid, oleum, chlorosulfonic acid, perchlorate, etc.
